The Cleveland Browns entered their matchup with the Atlanta Falcons battered and dejected after losing 4 straight. The script was supposed to go as follows: The Browns would give up lots of points and be unable to match Atlanta’s offensive output. Somebody forgot to give the Browns the script because their defense held the Falcons to 16 points in their 35-16 victory today.

The Browns allowed several trips to the red zone but only surrendered 16 points. The Browns stopped the Falcons at the goal line early in the 4th quarter and narrowly stopped them again with 5 minutes remaining. The Browns prevented a 2-point conversion after the late falcon TD which kept the deficit at 12, meaning they would have to score two touchdowns instead of being able to score a touchdown with extra point and kick a field goal to tie.

It’s the little things like Head Coach Gregg Williams has been mentioning all week that showed up in the game. The Browns maintained disciplined on defense and limited big plays from Atlanta’s explosive offense. On the offensive side of the ball, Nick Chubb scored the longest run play in Browns history with a 92-yard run in the 3rd quarter.

With a four-game losing streak headed into today’s game, the Browns needed something positive after the firing of two of their coaches. This win was it. While it is a step in the right direction the Browns will have plenty to work on during their Bye week.
