Officials at Ohio State University have revealed that Urban Meyer did, in fact, fail to follow proper protocols in handling the Zach Smith incident and will serve a 3 game suspension.  Athletic Director Gene Smith is also suspended without pay until September 16th.

This comes as bittersweet news to Ohio State fans and players as everyone is hoping this would be resolved quickly so they can get back to playing football.

The Ohio State board of trustees announced this evening that Urban Meyer will rejoin the team after the third game of the season. Some had suspected that coach Meyer would have to serve a longer suspension and some also believed that he would receive a “time-served” suspension.

This comes after speculation that Urban Meyer could potentially lose his position as head football coach. Things can now begin to go back to business as usual as the preseason college football rankings have Ohio State as the fifth best team in college football.

While many may critique this decision of not firing coach Meyer and certainly the validity of the investigation may come into question, one thing is for certain, it will be good for the university to be able to put this event behind them and escape what has been a rough news cycle this past month.
